My Nanny Diary. (Haul, Bridesmaid Dresses, and the SHIT STORM)

Hey! I finally have some down-time so I can get some blogs done. This is a quick blog and it goes along with Friday's video! It will include all of the links to the items we hauled and also the story and pictures behind the SHIT STORM. I think our faces tell most of the story but nevertheless, enjoy my adventures in babysitting. Not that I did.
I have been watching Reagan since she was six weeks old and have babysat for numerous families in the past but this was by far the worst experience I have had so far. Basically, while Jessica and I were filming our haul, Reagan was supposed to be napping. However, she woke up and when we went to go check on her- this happened ------>                         If you read my last nanny diary then you know that Reagan is currently being potty trained. She had a pull up on and took it upon herself to take it off and spread her poop all over EVERYTHING. I had to use a lot of cleaner and Jessica had to bathe her but we got it all cleaned up pretty fast. I guess looking back it was funny, but definitely not at the time.  Now lets get to the good stuff, shopping!!

Here is our Haul with live footage from the shit storm. Includes bloopers and such :) Enjoy! Or you           can watch it here. Includes stores like Target, Ulta, Apple, Mac, and more!
Links for the items that are available to purchase online!
                                                                     Rosy Lips Vaseline
                                                            Too Faced Chocolate Bar

Bridesmaid Dress Shopping!!!

Our sister Amy is getting married in October so yesterday we went shopping to pick out our dresses. The dress above is the one we settled on. However, it will be in the color champagne. We tried on a few but ultimately decided on the first one we liked.  This one is around $140 from David's Bridal. We will be wearing it with cowboy boots! We plan on doing a lot more wedding related videos in our wedding series on YouTube. Like DIY's, vlogs, and more! We posted our dress shopping trip yesterday! Watch it here

Lots of recipe and OOTD blogs planned or this week so make sure you are following! :)

Blogmas #1- How To Deal With Final Exams!

Today (as promised) we have a BLOGMAS post for you. This is first post of the series :) For those of you that didn't catch our (previous blog) Blogmas is just going to be all Christmas/Holiday themed posts throughout the month of December. Today is going to deal with the number one stress for students before Holiday break- FINALS.
Urban Dictionary defines finals as Fuck. I. Never. Actually. Learned. Shit. Having been in school all of my life, I can testify to this. Finals are always the time I dread. Not at first though. A few weeks before finals
most of us get in this SUPER PUMPED mode where we're like "I am going to be so organized and get everything done and ace my finals and live happily ever after!" But then the night before the test we realize we probably should have prepared more and learn to accept the fact that we are about to fail miserably. We have all been there. Jessica and I both have major test anxiety. A lot of people may have it and not realize they do. But if you feel a great level of pressure or stress before any kind of oral exam, quiz, or test chances are you may have it too. I have learned to overcome test anxiety with a few different techniques I have learned over the years so I thought sharing them may be helpful! So let's get started so you can get to studying!

1. Manage Your Time Wisely

  • Don't wait until the last minute to study and cram for the exam. Now this may not help you since most of your semesters are almost over but for future reference- make sure you are studying for finals all semester long. This will minimize the amount of stresses you have before exams.
  • Study in increments. Most of us have multiple tests to study for. So instead of studying for one subject for hours on end and then moving onto the next, block your hours. By that I mean schedule the time you will study for each subject to make sure you are not overdoing it on one. Say you are studying from 2pm-5pm. Try this- study for Subject One from 2pm-3pm, Subject Two from 3pm-4pm, and Subject Three from 4pm-5pm. If you switch between the subjects it gives your brain a chance to process and recharge. Plus, focusing on one subject for too long can actually cause us to become frustrated and withdrawn.
  • Take Breaks. Focusing on something for to long can cause even more stress and frustration. We must remember to take care of ourselves. We do this by taking a break to shower, eat, and get exercise. Working out releases a lot of stress for me. I have actually done some of my best studying on an elliptical machine. I focus on the words I'm reading instead of the miles I have gone. It is like the lesser of two evils kind of thing. Always make sure you are eating healthy foods. Junk foods and energy drinks really just slow us down in the long run. I like to fuel up on things like almonds, berries, and the occasional coffee. You might feel like you are wasting time but as long as you schedule your breaks and spend them wisely they are perfectly acceptable. My boyfriend's professor actually suggested to take pictures of nature in order to relieve some stress from finals. I may try that some time!

 2. Study With a Partner!

  • Choose Wisely. Don't just choose your best friend or some rando from class. Make sure you are studying with someone who as initiative and really wants to do well. I have a friend in my program at school and we study for exams together. We will tackle the material by breaking it up. She will learn a portion on her own and so will I. When we come together we teach each other the part we learned on our own. This has really worked for us. We have both done very well on our medical exams. We laugh and have fun while we study and that makes it so much more tolerable. Studying doesn't have to be a bore.

    • Independently study: together.  This may not be for everyone but it has worked for me in the past. I used to have weekly "study dates" with a friend where we would go to Starbucks and both study separate subjects. This friend and I did not go to the same school and were not taking the same classes. This worked for us because we felt like we were getting out and doing something yet we were still being productive. Plus who doesn't love coffee?
I just had the Pepperment Mocha for the first time, SO GOOD! Great for your next Starbucks study date! :)

     3. Have the Correct Work Environment!

    • Choose somewhere quiet. I do this by signing up for the study room in the library. We can do this at our school and not be disturbed. If that option is not readily available for you then any quiet place where you can really focus is fine. Sometimes studying in your dorm or bedroom can be difficult because you have a million things to distract you. You know how it is, you say "I'll just watch T.V. for thirty minutes. Next thing you know, you have finished the entire season 3 of Grey's Anatomy in one night. I get it, these distractions can be tempting. To avoid them all together just take yourself out of that environment. I mean unless you have like extreme self-control which in that case TEACH ME YOUR WAYS.
    • Listen to instrumental music. This certainly isn't for everyone but it works for me. I can't listen to most music while I study because I will start to sing and get all sorts of distracted. But I have found that classical music can be very calming and I like to have it on while studying or writing a paper. If classical music isn't for you, you could also try listening to Ratatat. Their music is my favorite to study to. Have a listen here. Spotify and Pandora also have a lot of good music options.

    4. Know What Material is Important To Study!

    • You are and you notebook are on a need to know basis.  My professors make this pretty easy for us. They practically spell out what to study and what to skim. It is also important to pay attention in class because if your instructor repeats something or puts emphasis on it, it will most likely be on the exam.
    • Take advantage of provided study material.  The resources you are provided are the best to study. If you're given a study guide and told it is optional, do it. Writing down the answers and studying that will help better prepare you.
    • Your textbook is your frenemy. Your textbook can either really help you or harm you severely. In High School me and my textbooks had a strong relationship. I could trust them to give me the information I needed and I never questioned our relationship. When I got to College we grew apart. This is because most instructors don't teach out of the textbook. A lot of college students use old editions of books or don't buy the course material to save some money. Professors know this. Therefore, most won't take direct statements from the textbook and slap them on a test. Most of my professors hated the required books for their course and urged us to return them. So just make sure you know where you and your textbook stand.
    • Notecards are your best friend. Now this is a friendship you do not have to question. Testing yourself is the fastest way to know if you have learned the material. I ALWAYS make flashcards. I make them for every test and quiz throughout the semester. Then when it comes time for finals, I already have them to study from! Plus writing out all of the notecards by hand does more for you than you might think. Writing down the information gives your brain the chance to process it. It is time to rekindle your relationship with notecards<3

5. Worry Less. Sleep More!

  • Cramming all night is not worth it. I have been there. I have stayed up all night in order to ensure that I learned all I need to know. But the truth of the matter is, I never really learned anything after midnight. I was always exhausted and hopped up on coffee, never fully focused on the material in front of me. Frankly, I would have benefited more from eight hours of sleep then eight hours of late night studying. Some of the smartest people I know have told me that if you don't know the material you won't learn it no matter how much you study the day before. I don't know if I 100% believe that last minute cramming is a TOTAL waste of time but I do know that sleep is TOTALLY worth it. Getting a good night's rest is important to get the night before the exam or any night for that matter. That is why I will never understand Universities that have the age old tradition of the "midnight scream" during finals week. If I went to a school where that happened, I would be screaming "PIPE THE FUCK DOWN!" out my window.

This time of year there are a lot of stresses like work, school, family, and holiday events
. Make sure you still enjoy this time of year. Go to that ugly sweater party and eat that reindeer cupcake. After all, stressed backwards is desserts! Just make sure you manage your time and don't wait until the last minute to start studying. Don't worry, soon your final stresses will be over. Then you get to go home for break and have your family stress you out! Happy Holidays! ;)

Good Grief! Mourning a Loved One.

This is a picture of my Facebook status last night. This was posted around 3:45 AM. I could not fall asleep though I was so tired and knew I would have to wake up soon to watch my niece. It was a long night and I am still trying to recover from the sleep I missed out on. So you might be wondering what the title and this whole ramble about my sleep problems has to do with our fashion blog, well the answer is- it doesn't. Today our blog is going to sort of stray away from style and what colors are in this season and focus on something a little more serious, grief. I'm sure most of you reading this have lost someone close to you or know someone who has. But this post isn't about them, it's about us- the grievers. "Almost 4am and I'm wide awake. Great. -feeling sad." I was feeling this way because like most people every night before I fall asleep I think about my day and say a prayer. I'm not super religious. I love church but I'm not there every Sunday with my bible in hand and it wasn't until this past June that I began praying every night. I don't know if you can really call it praying, I just use the last minutes I spend awake talking to my Grandpa. You see, on Father's day this year my family lost a very special person, my Grandpa. Although it has been about five months, it feels like it was yesterday. So my family and I are still grieving and I myself have been thinking about the whole process lately and figured it was worth sharing my thoughts on it.

These are the five stages of grief that everyone has heard of at one point or another. I studied these stages quite thoroughly in High School and again in my first year of college. I think they mean something a little different to everyone and I would like to share my take on each one with you.

This first stage is about not believing that you lost or are losing your loved one.
For me this stage was the longest. I remember talking to my Grandma on the phone when they had first got to the hospital and her telling me that my Grandpa would have to get brain surgery because of the bleeding that was occurring in his brain. I am study Echocardiography in school and have taken more than my fair share of medical classes. I knew right when I heard "brain surgery" that things were not looking good. I am a pretty positive person and refusing to even consider the thought of losing him I went to the store and got my Grandpa a "Get Well Soon!" and a Father's day card to give him when I went to visit. He never did end up getting to read them :( Jessica and I went up to the hospital to see him but he was unconscious and could not speak to us. We just sat with him and talked to him knowing that even though he couldn't acknowledge it- he could hear us. After being at the hospital for hours and saying goodbye to our Grandpa we finally made the long drive back home. I remember that whole night sitting in my living room with my dad and my sister talking about how things weren't looking good, but I think I had convinced myself that everything was going to be alright and that he would just wake up because this wasn't fair. Things like this didn't happen to me. I had watched my cousins lose their mothers within two years of each other and saw how strong each of them were. At both of my Aunt's funerals I tried to place myself in their shoes but I couldn't. I couldn't even think about losing someone SO close to me. Last year one of my good friends lost her mother to cancer and this past spring my best friend's boyfriend lost his father to the same. These two people, are probably the strongest people I have ever known. I can't even begin to explain to you how in awe I was of these two. I always hoped that if I lost a friend or family member I could carry myself with such grace. But for some shock might be seen as strength. This stage describes the initial shock you are in when you have to say goodbye to someone you love or for many not getting the chance to.

No definition needed for this one, we all know what anger is. This type of anger though, goes beyond being mad at your sister for borrowing your clothes without asking. This anger is the kind you feel when everything seems unfair and losing your loved one is unbearable. Most people place the blame on God or the cause of death. For example "God, why would you take them from me?" or "I hate Cancer!" My anger however, was placed on myself. My family had taken several trips up north to go see my Grandpa when he started to get sick and I had not gone with them either time. One time I had a lot of homework to finish up and thought I should get ahead on studying for my finals. Another time I was going to see my boyfriend up at school. I knew I should of went to see him but I always thought I would have more time. I felt so guilty and still do that I could have spent time with him but chose not to. For me this stage is the worse. Forgiving someone else is a whole lot easier than forgiving yourself.

Ahhh, bargaining. I like to think of this as the saddest stage of them all. This is the "Take me but let them live" "If you let me keep them I will never ______" stage. Sadly, all the bargaining in the world can't reverse time. My 'bargain' was "Just let him wake up so I can say goodbye. Just give me that. That is all I ask." But it didn't happen. This is a messy stage. This is the time when you have come to terms with the fact that you may be losing someone but you think that you can change this by making promises and begging to keep them. This one lasted a short time for me because my Grandpa was only in the hospitals for a few days before he passed away.
The fourth stage is depression. Now I know I said bargaining was the saddest stage but this is a close second. This stage really depends on how traumatic your loss was, how close you were with the deceased, and how fast you reach acceptance. For me it comes in waves. I know that my Grandpa wouldn't want me or anyone else in my family to be sad. I guess it just depends on the day, Of course I lost it at the hospital, I bawled my eyes out at an Outback Steakhouse me and my boyfriend stopped at for dinner just because it was near the hospital my Grandpa had died at. Just last week I got choked up when the cashier at speedway gave me back quarters as change (my Grandpa was a collector). That is why I was shocked that I made it through the whole funeral and even delivered the Eulogy without shedding a single tear. I just know that grieving is a process and being strong in front of others and crying in private is perfectly okay.

Finally, acceptance. This is the stage where you "graduate" from the grieving process- When you acknowledge the loss you faced, look ahead, and begin to move on from it. This may be the last stage but I don't believe this is the end. I think that for some the mourning process is life-long. It has only been 5 months but I know that I will miss my Grandpa for the rest of my life. For me this stage is bitter-sweet. Most people are left with mementos or belongings of the ones they lost. I have no tangible item to remember him besides photos and the memories that they captured. Those are the greatest things to have. I will cherish them for the rest of my life. My grandpa won't be there to see me walk down the aisle, but he got to walk me through the first twenty years of my life. He may never hold my kids but I got to hold his hand the day they took him off the machines that were keeping him alive. For those of you struggling to reach this stage just know that your loved ones may have been taken away from you but your memories of them and the love who had for each other were not.

.
Our Tips for the Grieving
  • Stay positive and take it one day at a time
  • Cry when you need to (it is okay to be sad)
  • Remember that everyone grieves differently
  • Talk about your loss
  • Accept help from those who offer
  • Remember the good times
  • Keep things to remember them by

Jessica got a tattoo in memory of our Grandpa. I keep a dream catcher in my car.  Above is a picture frame I made using my favorite parts of the Eulogy that my sister and I wrote. I cut them out and glued them to make the border of the frame.

How to Find Confidence and Dressing for Your Body Type!

So if you haven't guessed it by now, today's blog is going to be all about confidence- how to get it, where to find it, and how to keep it for the rest of your life. Confidence is a tricky thing, especially for Females. Now we aren't saying that Men don't have their own bouts with self-consciousness but with the media putting all these ideas in their heads about how they should look and act- women definitely get the shorter end of the stick. We're constantly hearing all around us...
"I'm fat"
"I'm ugly"
"Why don't I look like ____?"
"I'll never get a boyfriend"
We can't help but wonder if all of these statements stem from other's words like...
"You're fat"
"You're ugly"
"She's way prettier than you"
"No one will ever date you"
But you know what? We don't think so. Sure, there are all types of bullies out there, from our moms to our frenemies (if you have one, ditch em!) but we can't believe that the self-consciousness woman feel is ALL a result of other people's negative opinions. Lets take for example the statement "I'm Fat" - is there a reason someone says this? Many people would argue it is just for attention but for most of those who say the statement out-loud, they actually believe it. True, they may be looking for that expected "Girl, you aren't fat- you look good!!!" but somewhere in that person's mind, they are seeing someone in the mirror that isn't at all who they are. And this can be caused by many different things. Ever heard of something called Body Dysmorphic Disorder?
Above is a little background on this disorder. While BDD is considered to be present in woman who have some type of eating disorder, we believe that woman will experience negative thoughts about their body AT LEAST once in their lifetime. So why are girl's so judgmental of one another? Constantly gossiping about who has gained too much weight and who bulked up too much. We already have enough demons to face in our minds and in the mirror each morning to hear it again from some random girl in line behind us at Taco Bell. So next time you want to bad mouth another girl's appearance, at least try to make a career out of it like Joan Rivers. All we are saying is think before you speak.

Everybody is Beautiful- Remember that!

Now weight isn't the only area people have issues with but it is a big concern for many. Now some women think they need to lose weight just because they feel their clothes do not fit them correctly.
That can be easily fixed by simply wearing the right clothes for your body shape! Here are some suggestions for you to get the most out of your wardrobe choices!

Pear-shaped celeb: (Kim Kardashian)
  • Body Traits: Your lower body is wider than your upper body — or, your hips are wider than your shoulders. You have a round bottom and a prominent waist.
  • Best Assets: Shoulders, torso and stomach
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Emphasize your waist and arms, add volume to your shoulders and upper body while minimizing your hips.

Pear's DOs and DON'Ts

  • DON'T wear clothing that draws attention to hips and thighs, such as cargo pants or print skirts.
  • DO try a-line skirts, which camouflage wider hips.
  • DO keep hems of pants, skirts and dresses wide to balance the hips.
  • DO experiment with light-colored tops and dark-colored bottoms for contrast.
  • DO look for boat neck tops, square and cowl necklines.
  • DO wear strapless dresses to show off arms and even out proportions.
  • DO try styles with ruffles on top.
  • DO wear jackets that hit right above the waist.
  • DO opt for pointy-toed shoes to elongate your legs.

Wedge-shaped celeb: (Audrina Patridge)
  • Body Traits: A.K.A inverted triangle, the wedge features a broad chest and wide shoulders which are large in proportion to a narrow waist and hips.
  • Best Asset: Your legs
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Accentuate your lower body while softening your shoulders and upper body.

 Wedge's DOs and DON'TS

  • DO wear bright colors on bottom.
  • DO wear wide-leg pants.
  • DO wear full skirts.
  • DON'T wear spaghetti-strap tops.
  • DON'T wear boat neckline tops.
  • DO wear tops that call attention to your waistline.
  • DO experiment with high-waisted styles.
  • DO look for clothes that create the illusion of a waist.

Rectangle-shaped celeb: (Natalie Portman)
  • Body Traits: The waist, hip and shoulder widths are similar and are usually on the slim side. Slender rectangles have an athletic look about them.
  • Best Assets: Your arms and legs — and you don't have to minimize any body features.
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Create curves and show off slender legs and arms.

Rectangle's DOs and DON'Ts

  • DO wear scoop neck and sweetheart tops to create curves.
  • DO wear long jackets to create a lean look.
  • DO wear tops with collars, ruffles and details to flatter your chest.
  • DO wear a good bra that will make the most of what you have.
  • DON'T wear overwhelming styles.
  • DO layer to add more dimensions.
  • DO wear dresses with ruching. Cinches on sides are ideal.
  • DO have fun with colorful bottoms... feel free to experiment.
Apple-shaped celeb: (Jennifer Hudson)
  • Body Traits: Most of your weight accumulates above the hips, which are narrow. Your back, ribs and shoulders are broad, and you may feel wider than other body types.
  • Best Asset: Those legs!
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Elongate the torso, show off your legs and use fashion to create the illusion of a waist.

Apple's DOs and DON'TS

  • DO go for monochromatic looks.
  • DO go for v-neck tops to create the illusion of a longer torso.
  • DO wear a bra that offers good lift and support.
  • DO wear belts at the smallest part of your waist.
  • DO conceal tummy bulge by wearing empire tops and dresses.
  • DO wear boot cut and flared jeans to create an even line from the shoulders down.
  • DO wear shorter skirts to show off your legs and draw attention away from your midsection.

Hourglass-shaped celeb: (Beyonce)
  • Body Traits: Your shoulders and hips are similar in proportion and set off by a tiny waist.
  • Best Assets: Curves, curves, curves!
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Show off your curves... without going overboard.

Hour Glass' DOs and DON'Ts

  • DON'T hide your curves with baggy clothing.
  • DO wear a good bra and showcase your bust.
  • DO wear fitted dresses.
  • DO wear a belt at the waist to enhance your hourglass shape.
  • DO try wrap dresses.
  • DO go for high-waisted skirts to show off your hips.
  • DO pick thin, lightweight styles and fabrics.
  • DO wear skinny or straight leg jeans.

The best confidence you can have is the kind that comes from accomplishing a goal or making a dream a reality.  You can do this by running a marathon, learning a new recipe, or even doing something as crazy as skydiving or cliff-diving! Concur a fear, get out of your comfort zone and you might be surprised by how much better you feel about yourself!

We all have those friends, the ones that are constantly talking about their relationship or lack thereof. Constantly, relying on a guy to take care of them. Girls need to start realizing that they are worth so much more than just being trophy wives. We have friends that answer the question "What is your dream occupation?" with "M.I.L.F" The sad thing is- We're not kidding! When a woman places all of her eggs in one basket and depends solely on a man to make her feel beautiful that is when there becomes a huge disconnect in her self-awareness. She no longer believes that she is smart, funny, pretty, ect. until the man she wants to recognize those things, does. Who wants to live that way? Shouldn't we depend on ourselves? The answer, yes. If we don't then when the person that was giving us this reassurance is gone we will be left confused and more self-conscious than ever. So no more depending on other people to tell you how great you are, you do it! And we are here to tell you how!
Have you ever heard of affirmations? The first time we heard about affirmations was on MTV's True Life when a girl did them to help her find confidence and peace within herself. We thought the idea of it was cool and  think they can really help! Charlotte on Sex and the City even did them to help her find a man! An affirmation is a line or phrase you repeat to yourself daily to keep a positive attitude about one's self. Here are some of our favorites!

“You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”

― Kathryn Stockett, The Help

"I release my fear of failure. I am motivated by love, always."

"I am willing to step out of my comfort zone."

"I choose to express a confident attitude to others. "

This last bit of advice we have for you might seem ridiculous but in the age of smartphones and front-view cameras, the "selfie" has become a common thing. Now we don't even like calling them selfies, frankly it is a little embarrassing. But hey, whatever works right? If you want some instant gratification, snap a photo of yourself and post it to Instagram. Now we're talking strictly pictures of your eight-by-ten money maker. No nude pictures, because that is not cute, that is desperate and probably illegal. Take a picture, post it, and we guarentee the likes you get on that picture will make you feel a little better. But don't be one of those annoying girls who post a picture with hashtags like #nofilter, #nomakeup, #sweatpantshairtiedchillinwithnomakeupon, when in fact none of that is true.... Come on ladies- class it up. #Girlcode

Just don't be as obnoxious as this girl--->

(Yeah.... I know that is me.... )

"Confidence not cockiness, confidence is knowing who you are. Confidence is knowing who you are, cockiness is knowing who you are and shoving it down everyone's throat."

“Beneath the makeup and behind the smile I am just a girl who wishes for the world.” ― Marilyn Monroe
