How to Find Confidence and Dressing for Your Body Type!

So if you haven't guessed it by now, today's blog is going to be all about confidence- how to get it, where to find it, and how to keep it for the rest of your life. Confidence is a tricky thing, especially for Females. Now we aren't saying that Men don't have their own bouts with self-consciousness but with the media putting all these ideas in their heads about how they should look and act- women definitely get the shorter end of the stick. We're constantly hearing all around us...
"I'm fat"
"I'm ugly"
"Why don't I look like ____?"
"I'll never get a boyfriend"
We can't help but wonder if all of these statements stem from other's words like...
"You're fat"
"You're ugly"
"She's way prettier than you"
"No one will ever date you"
But you know what? We don't think so. Sure, there are all types of bullies out there, from our moms to our frenemies (if you have one, ditch em!) but we can't believe that the self-consciousness woman feel is ALL a result of other people's negative opinions. Lets take for example the statement "I'm Fat" - is there a reason someone says this? Many people would argue it is just for attention but for most of those who say the statement out-loud, they actually believe it. True, they may be looking for that expected "Girl, you aren't fat- you look good!!!" but somewhere in that person's mind, they are seeing someone in the mirror that isn't at all who they are. And this can be caused by many different things. Ever heard of something called Body Dysmorphic Disorder?
Above is a little background on this disorder. While BDD is considered to be present in woman who have some type of eating disorder, we believe that woman will experience negative thoughts about their body AT LEAST once in their lifetime. So why are girl's so judgmental of one another? Constantly gossiping about who has gained too much weight and who bulked up too much. We already have enough demons to face in our minds and in the mirror each morning to hear it again from some random girl in line behind us at Taco Bell. So next time you want to bad mouth another girl's appearance, at least try to make a career out of it like Joan Rivers. All we are saying is think before you speak.

Everybody is Beautiful- Remember that!

Now weight isn't the only area people have issues with but it is a big concern for many. Now some women think they need to lose weight just because they feel their clothes do not fit them correctly.
That can be easily fixed by simply wearing the right clothes for your body shape! Here are some suggestions for you to get the most out of your wardrobe choices!

Pear-shaped celeb: (Kim Kardashian)
  • Body Traits: Your lower body is wider than your upper body — or, your hips are wider than your shoulders. You have a round bottom and a prominent waist.
  • Best Assets: Shoulders, torso and stomach
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Emphasize your waist and arms, add volume to your shoulders and upper body while minimizing your hips.

Pear's DOs and DON'Ts

  • DON'T wear clothing that draws attention to hips and thighs, such as cargo pants or print skirts.
  • DO try a-line skirts, which camouflage wider hips.
  • DO keep hems of pants, skirts and dresses wide to balance the hips.
  • DO experiment with light-colored tops and dark-colored bottoms for contrast.
  • DO look for boat neck tops, square and cowl necklines.
  • DO wear strapless dresses to show off arms and even out proportions.
  • DO try styles with ruffles on top.
  • DO wear jackets that hit right above the waist.
  • DO opt for pointy-toed shoes to elongate your legs.

Wedge-shaped celeb: (Audrina Patridge)
  • Body Traits: A.K.A inverted triangle, the wedge features a broad chest and wide shoulders which are large in proportion to a narrow waist and hips.
  • Best Asset: Your legs
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Accentuate your lower body while softening your shoulders and upper body.

 Wedge's DOs and DON'TS

  • DO wear bright colors on bottom.
  • DO wear wide-leg pants.
  • DO wear full skirts.
  • DON'T wear spaghetti-strap tops.
  • DON'T wear boat neckline tops.
  • DO wear tops that call attention to your waistline.
  • DO experiment with high-waisted styles.
  • DO look for clothes that create the illusion of a waist.

Rectangle-shaped celeb: (Natalie Portman)
  • Body Traits: The waist, hip and shoulder widths are similar and are usually on the slim side. Slender rectangles have an athletic look about them.
  • Best Assets: Your arms and legs — and you don't have to minimize any body features.
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Create curves and show off slender legs and arms.

Rectangle's DOs and DON'Ts

  • DO wear scoop neck and sweetheart tops to create curves.
  • DO wear long jackets to create a lean look.
  • DO wear tops with collars, ruffles and details to flatter your chest.
  • DO wear a good bra that will make the most of what you have.
  • DON'T wear overwhelming styles.
  • DO layer to add more dimensions.
  • DO wear dresses with ruching. Cinches on sides are ideal.
  • DO have fun with colorful bottoms... feel free to experiment.
Apple-shaped celeb: (Jennifer Hudson)
  • Body Traits: Most of your weight accumulates above the hips, which are narrow. Your back, ribs and shoulders are broad, and you may feel wider than other body types.
  • Best Asset: Those legs!
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Elongate the torso, show off your legs and use fashion to create the illusion of a waist.

Apple's DOs and DON'TS

  • DO go for monochromatic looks.
  • DO go for v-neck tops to create the illusion of a longer torso.
  • DO wear a bra that offers good lift and support.
  • DO wear belts at the smallest part of your waist.
  • DO conceal tummy bulge by wearing empire tops and dresses.
  • DO wear boot cut and flared jeans to create an even line from the shoulders down.
  • DO wear shorter skirts to show off your legs and draw attention away from your midsection.

Hourglass-shaped celeb: (Beyonce)
  • Body Traits: Your shoulders and hips are similar in proportion and set off by a tiny waist.
  • Best Assets: Curves, curves, curves!
  • What Your Clothes Should Do: Show off your curves... without going overboard.

Hour Glass' DOs and DON'Ts

  • DON'T hide your curves with baggy clothing.
  • DO wear a good bra and showcase your bust.
  • DO wear fitted dresses.
  • DO wear a belt at the waist to enhance your hourglass shape.
  • DO try wrap dresses.
  • DO go for high-waisted skirts to show off your hips.
  • DO pick thin, lightweight styles and fabrics.
  • DO wear skinny or straight leg jeans.

The best confidence you can have is the kind that comes from accomplishing a goal or making a dream a reality.  You can do this by running a marathon, learning a new recipe, or even doing something as crazy as skydiving or cliff-diving! Concur a fear, get out of your comfort zone and you might be surprised by how much better you feel about yourself!

We all have those friends, the ones that are constantly talking about their relationship or lack thereof. Constantly, relying on a guy to take care of them. Girls need to start realizing that they are worth so much more than just being trophy wives. We have friends that answer the question "What is your dream occupation?" with "M.I.L.F" The sad thing is- We're not kidding! When a woman places all of her eggs in one basket and depends solely on a man to make her feel beautiful that is when there becomes a huge disconnect in her self-awareness. She no longer believes that she is smart, funny, pretty, ect. until the man she wants to recognize those things, does. Who wants to live that way? Shouldn't we depend on ourselves? The answer, yes. If we don't then when the person that was giving us this reassurance is gone we will be left confused and more self-conscious than ever. So no more depending on other people to tell you how great you are, you do it! And we are here to tell you how!
Have you ever heard of affirmations? The first time we heard about affirmations was on MTV's True Life when a girl did them to help her find confidence and peace within herself. We thought the idea of it was cool and  think they can really help! Charlotte on Sex and the City even did them to help her find a man! An affirmation is a line or phrase you repeat to yourself daily to keep a positive attitude about one's self. Here are some of our favorites!

“You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”

― Kathryn Stockett, The Help

"I release my fear of failure. I am motivated by love, always."

"I am willing to step out of my comfort zone."

"I choose to express a confident attitude to others. "

This last bit of advice we have for you might seem ridiculous but in the age of smartphones and front-view cameras, the "selfie" has become a common thing. Now we don't even like calling them selfies, frankly it is a little embarrassing. But hey, whatever works right? If you want some instant gratification, snap a photo of yourself and post it to Instagram. Now we're talking strictly pictures of your eight-by-ten money maker. No nude pictures, because that is not cute, that is desperate and probably illegal. Take a picture, post it, and we guarentee the likes you get on that picture will make you feel a little better. But don't be one of those annoying girls who post a picture with hashtags like #nofilter, #nomakeup, #sweatpantshairtiedchillinwithnomakeupon, when in fact none of that is true.... Come on ladies- class it up. #Girlcode

Just don't be as obnoxious as this girl--->

(Yeah.... I know that is me.... )

"Confidence not cockiness, confidence is knowing who you are. Confidence is knowing who you are, cockiness is knowing who you are and shoving it down everyone's throat."

“Beneath the makeup and behind the smile I am just a girl who wishes for the world.” ― Marilyn Monroe

Thrifted Fashion Video and Our Weekend!

Hey Guys! So it was a long weekend for us and we apologize for missing a few blogs last week! :( But we would love to share our weekend with you!
We had a lot of fun this HALLOWEEN weekend.
We spent most of it at Michigan State University
 with our boyfriends and family.
My (it is Katie by the way) boyfriend goes to school there so we visited him
and dressed up for Halloween. Plus, it was the
Michigan vs. Michigan State game this weekend!

Here are some pictures of us with
our little brother and our cousin --->
State won which made our brother Tyler very unhappy since he was loudly routing for Michigan the whole weekend!

<----- Here are some of our Halloween costumes.
Jessica was a Sugar Skull and I was a Minion! I was also Elmo (that is why there are numbers on my boots). Our eye lashes had red bows on them and we loved them!!!

We did our nails for Halloween with a whole bunch of different colors and patterns. The candy corn
one was my favorite :) These were done with colorful nail polishes and toothpicks/sharpies to create the
designs!

MAKEUP! I purchased these this weekend at target. They were all three dollars each! I love ELF's lip glosses (right) so I had to buy those! I am really liking them so far. The false eyelashes are great but remember you need to buy a different eyelash adhesive because the glue it comes with is useless! The set on the left comes with two liquid liners and a pencil eyeliner. I like these because I am always losing my eyeliner in my makeup bag (that could easily be mistaken for Narnia) so these are perfect because they are cheap and they work!

Yum!!! Tis the season for White Peppermint Mochas from Starbucks! The picture on the left (sorry it is blurry) is the schedule for ABC family's 25 days of Christmas that begins on December 1st. I know it is only November but I feel like the Holidays always go by so fast so this year I am getting in the spirit early! I even bought a "Deck the Halls" candle yesterday!

We can't forget what this weekend was....JESSICA'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND! Here is the present her boyfriend Rob got her! A Build-a-Bear and a beautiful necklace!

Cold Weather Cures!

Hey guys it's Katie! Today was a particularly cold fall day in Michigan and it is beginning to feel like winter already. So to get you prepared for those cold winter nights we have come up with some cold weather cures for you!

The girls above are wearing some of our favorite winter fashion essentials.
The girl on the left is wearing an adorable Aztec print sweater much like the
ones Jessica and I shared in our Huge Fall Haul! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNOHdyeY4HY
These are also great for fall if you live in slightly warmer states or parts
of the world. This look is very easy to recreate with a graphic tee and a
chunky necklace. The right picture is an adorable fall outfit. How does she
look so cute yet so comfy at the same time? Easy! She pairs a button down
denim shirt with jeans, knee high socks, and tall riding boots. By layering the
coat and scarf she is keeping warm and keeping up with this year's trends.

We love fuzzy socks! I myself am a sock hoarder. I have so many
unopened packages of socks because I convince myself to save
them for important things. When would you ever need important
socks? I don't know, but somehow I think that is a valid reason to
save my new socks and wear ones that are no longer brand new.
Ramble, ramble, ramble! So knee socks are cute and comfortable.
You can wear them with skirts, pants, boots, or just with some shorts
at home when you are headed to bed to watch movies for the night.
Riding boots are great to wear with tight jeans or even leggings.
Bonus- they are so easy to wear because they don't hurt your feet!
We love boots that zip up the back (middle) and I actually own a
black pair I wear all the time. Leg warmers are an old trend that
have come back into style. I have seen people wearing these with flats
and jeans but they are also perfect to fold over boots as well.

Want to be warm but still keep up with the trends? Solution-
WEAR LEATHER! Faux leather is affordable and is popping
up in more and more stores lately.
^^ This is my leather jacket I got at marshals for $25.
The material is very thick but not too
bulky so I can still layer it with hoodies. Also you gotta love scarves for
when its cold outside. Burrrr. Plus they can really finish off an outfit.

Who could pass up a cup of hot chocolate this cute? Little
marshmallow ghosties, yum! Hot coco is perfect for when
you want to cuddle up and watch a movie or if you are outside
at a sporting event and want to stay warm! Jessica and I are
tailgating for the Michigan vs. Michigan State game this weekend!
So go subscribe to our YouTube channel (linked below) to make sure
you see it!
@rougepurcourture (twitter) Love hot coco and the way
that cold weather lets you spend time with the people
you are about most around the holidays.

Candles are great for anytime of year but in the fall
and winter all of the really amazing scents come out.
Bath and Body Works will occasionally have a 2 for $22
deal which is a lot more affordable than $20 for one candle.
We also love Yankee candles but there is just something
about B&B works candles that makes them our favorite.
Candles go perfect with our next cold weather cure!

Books! No I am not suggesting that paper goes great with fire. I just mean
that I love to snuggle up on the couch, read a good book and drink warm tea
or hot chocolate. The book I am currently reading is called The Hiding Place
by David Bell. I have read another book by him called Cemetery Girl about a young
girl who develops Stockholm Syndrome and falls in love with her kidnapper.
I like the way Bell wrote the story so I decided to give this book a try. So far, it
is interesting! So instead of watching the Real Housewives every cold winter
night, put the remote down and pick up a good book :)

There is nothing we hate more than walking out
to our cars in the morning and seeing our windshields
covered in snow and ice. But one thing that makes
driving better are these scent portables from
Bath and Body Works. These are air fresheners for
your car that clip onto your overhead mirror. They
have cute seasonal ones like the pumpkin above.
I have two, an anchor and a ladybug :) I switch
them out every once in a while but I have my eye
on the Santa Claus one ;) To the right is my favorite
scent and the one I am currently using at the moment.
It is farm stand apple and this also comes in candle form.
I'm telling you guys, its like going to an apple orchard
every time I get in my car. All of our sisters and mom
have one in their cars. I'll link my favorite scent here for you

Fall Fashion and a Haul!

The leaves are changing color and falling from the trees, your days are spent cuddled up wearing fuzzy socks and sipping hot apple cider. Yep, it is that time of year again, FALL:) Or "Fall for two days and then four long months of winter" as it is known in Michigan. Yes, we are from "the mitten" "the D" "America's high five" or as we call it, home. We have lived in this weather bipolar state of Michigan for our whole lives. A few good things have come from it- Cider Mills, The Red Wings, and getting to experience all four seasons in one week. Good or bad? Well to each their own, but personally I love it. My name is Katie and my sister's name is Jessica. She is beautiful, funny, sarcastic also happens to be really into makeup. I love clothes, I can't tell you how many times I have had to give clothes away because they were piling up around me. Our huge family (two boys, four girls) has always been funny, loving, and I'll admit crazy at times. I mean sharing a bathroom with three other girls was not exactly easy. Jessica has always been the life of the party. Always making us laugh, and always making new friends. She decided that she wanted to make a YouTube channel to give girls advice on makeup, style, and all the things she loves. She asked me to do it with her so we could share the experience together. I love to blog and have been doing it for some time so I figured YouTube would just be another way to express myself. Jessica's middle name is Brynn and mine is Lynn, we put them together to make our channel name: Brynnlynnbeauty. Alright, enough of the long ramble about us and our lives, lets get to the good stuff. CLOTHES!

The first thing we are loving for fall is OLIVE GREEN! It is so cute and you can pair it with almost anything. The peplum blouse (top left) is a perfect layering piece for fall. It has gold detailing around the neck line and very soft fabric. This item was purchased from Target on sale for 9.98 :) The hooded jacket (top right) is one of my favorite jackets for fall. It is comfortable and gives the layered effect with little to no effort. This jacket was around $35 from Windsor. http://www.windsorstore.com/Olive-Knit-Hooded-Jacket/p/170799 <--- There is a link for you if you want to check it out! The true military jacket (bottom left) is a staple for fall. I have been looking for an affordable one for some time now. When I couldn't find one I settled for the jacket with the gem collar (bottom right). The to jackets are very similar. Same color, draw strings, and both have embellishments on the collar. One studs (left) one gems (right) Both of these jackets are from kohl's. The jacket on the left was $40 and the one on the right was $10. We definitely recommend fitting some olive green into your wardrobe!

Boots! Boots! Boots! Combat boots are our favorite type of shoes this fall. The (top left) pair of boots are from DSW from the brand mix number six. We love that you have an option to fold them down to reveal the cool American flag print or you can just wear them all the way laced up for a more causal look. These were $59.95 and are Jessica's new obsession.
The brown flannel combat boots (top left) as well as the black and silver combat boots (bottom left) were Poshmark purchases. Poshmark is a smart phone app that allowed girls to buy and trade from other girl's virtual closets. I paid under $10 for both pairs and they are both in great condition. The bootie heals (bottom right) are my most loved pair of shoes right now. I can wear these with anything and they instantly make my legs look longer and somehow my leggings classier. As a nanny, I am inside with only my niece who doesn't seem to care what I look like. "Leggings it is!" <--- My inner monologue every day of the week. These boots were only $10 at Charlotte Russe last year during one of their amazing shoe sales. I have seen similar ones at pretty much an department store, but for a lot more money.
My Madden Girl boots were put through the ringer last winter when I wore them almost ever day. Sadly, I broke off one of the heal and it was just barely hanging there :( My mom suggested that I take them to a local dry cleaning place where they do shoe repair. It was going to cost me a third of what I paid for the boots brand new to get them fixed, so I embarked on a DIY journey. I looked on pinterest, google, every other website possible until I stumbled upon a Youtube video advertising this glue. Shoe Goo! Its glue for your shoe! I know that's cheesy, but that was the tag line of the video. I decided to give it a try and finally found it at our local Walmart. After about five minutes of Jessica and I arguing with the cashier who insisted that I must have my ID because we were going to huff it, I finally purchased the glue. I mean who huffs shoe glue? Honestly... Anyways, moral of the story is this stuff is awesome! I put some between the disconnected heal and the boots and WALLA. So if you are having shoe troubles, maybe you broke a heal drunkenly dancing on top of a bar (it's okay, we won't tell) pick some of this up.

So since we are on the subject of shoes.....why not talk about their best friend- SOCKS. And tights, of course. Jessica and I both picked up these socks (left and right) from Nordstrom Rack and they are from the Steve Madden brand. They have the cutest little ruffles and go great with knee high boots or scrunched up under combat boots like the ones earlier in this blog :) The tights (middle) are by the brand Legale and are very fitted (like tights should be) but are plush-lined so they are perfect to transition your dresses and skirts into the fall and winter. These were all $5.95 a piece.
Now, fall just wouldn't be fall without scarves! I have more scarves than I know what to do with. I love them, they are most definitely my most purchased item. The great thing is, mine are cheap! In price, not quality. The (top left) colored scarf has a lot of fall colors mixed in and a very cute leopard/orange pattern. It also has blue horseshoes all over the black print which is what originally drew me to it. I bought this for $2.99 brand new from Goodwill in the "Target's rejects section" as I like to call it. The (right) infinity scarf and the Aztec print scarf (bottom left) are both from Charlette Russe. There scarves are $5 each in store.
But you can check them out online- http://www.charlotterusse.com/thumbnail/Accessories/Scarves/pc/2116/2590.uts
Pants party! In Michigan, you don't get much of a choice of leg wear if you want to be warm. Unless you are one of those crazy girls who brave the cold winter months in booty shorts and Ugg boots. That's not our thing, so we wear PANTS:) One thing was love is distressed denim. The blue jeans pictured in the top left corner are from H&M. I love H&M for many things but pants are not one of them! Their pants are not the best quality when it comes to the zippers and buttons. However, I do love this pair and they have held up thus far. These type of jeans look totally cute tucked into boots in the fall. The olive green pants (top right) are from Kohl's and they are my new favorite pair of pants. I love the color and they fit perfectly. These were around $20 dollars and have the cutest little zippers. Okay, I have to move on because I could honestly go on about those all day. Anyways, the coral color pants (bottom left) were another Goodwill find. I got these Mossimo (Target brand) pants brand new for only $5. Tags still on them and everything. Crazy, I know. The last pair of pants pictured (bottom right) are from Rue21 and I bought them for around $20. They are the best skinny jeans I have ever owned. I only wore them for a few weeks and they are sadly too big on me now :( Oh well, that is what belts are for!
Keeping up with things bought at Rue21. One of our favorite fall clothing pieces-VESTS:)
The two pictured on they right were $6 each and Jessica and I both bought the black and the olive green color. These go nicely over dresses, long sleeves, and even a light jacket. The denim vest on the right is acid washed and a little edgy. The shoulders have spikes and the back has a back lace panel. This vest was only $10. To get a better look at these you can watch our fall haul which features these.
Check it out right here ------> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNOHdyeY4HY
Beanies are so cute for fall. They keep you nice and cozy while adding a cute look to an outfit. You don't even have to live in a cold climate to wear these. They have a ton of varieties from light to thick. All of these hats were purchased at Charlotte Russe for $5 each.
They say when you leave the house you should take one accessory off. Ditch the bracelets and keep the necklace! We love big statement necklaces for this fall. Necklaces like these can easily jazz up a graphic T-shirt of sweater.
The silver necklace (left) and the pearl peter pan collar (top right) were purchased from Rue21 for $12 each. The other two necklaces were purchased from Charming Charlie in the buy one get one free section. The black and silver one layered over my 'Chic Geek' shirt is my favorite accessory of the moment :)
Moving onto Jessica's favorite, beauty. She purchased some Mac products recently and shared them with viewers in our Fall Hall! A nice bronzer, a pretty blush, and a few eyes shadows. For names and pricing check out our YouTube video which will be linked at the end of this blog :) The bottom picture displays my cute little owl our sister Shanie made me and some of my fall favorites. I got a new Essie called "Penny Talk" and you guys, it looks like a penny on your nails. It's crazy. Having my hands full with my niece I can't sit around and wait for the paint to dry all day. Thankfully, you only need one coat of this and because of that it has quickly become my new go-to nail polish. I also purchased a red lipstick from the Kate Moss Collection by Rimmel London. This is the shade '09' and it is very pigmented and pretty.
Okay, I know what you some of you are thinking. Did I just see a picture of horse shampoo on a beauty blog? Well, before you exit out of our blog and go find someone who knows what they are talking about.... Consider this- IT REALLY WORKS. This is not only for horses, but also for humans too. The bottle can testify for me because it reads "For human use". But believe me I know its hard to believe because Jessica tried to convince me not to get it from the pet aisle all the way to the checkout line. While I will say it doesn't have much of a scent and doesn't have that lathered up soap feeling of normal (human) shampoo, it has made my hair softer. My oldest sister didn't believe me either so she took a snapshot of my recent purchase and posted it on Facebook for all of her family and friends to see. These are some of the comments we received.

Of course our lovely mother had to chime in with some silly joke about carrots, but props to the guy who left the Blades of Glory Reference, we appreciated that one.

Now back to plain old boring human hair products...The left photo shows my new hair mask from the brand eva-nyc. I have been on a mission to get my hair back to its former state of lusciousness and I was eager to try a hair mask. A hair mask is almost like a leave-in conditioner (it won't harden like a face mask) I put this in my hair after I used my regular shampoo and conditioner (the horse stuff) and then I leave this in while I finish off my shower. It has argon oil and smells heavenly. I used this once and it did soften my hair, it was a lot easier to brush through. My other eva-nyc product was actually free with the purchase of the hair mask at Ulta. I was going to just buy two hair masks but of course I am not coordinated enough to make it from the haircare aisle to the register without spilling or breaking something. After some awkward stares and a really nice saleswomen making me feel better about slewing hair mask all over the Urban Decay section, I decided to go with the hungry hair oil treatment. This smells good and I just dip my ends into the cute little bottle and almost instantly my ends felt softer. I got both eva-nyc products for $14.99 total. The two products in the right picture are our holy grail hair products. We both have loved the TRESemme' Thermal Creations heat protector for a few years. The smell is great, it seems to create another barrier between your hair and your heated hair tools. The Panteen Pro-V (blue bottle) is hair detangler that I go though so quickly. Me and Jessica both have natural difficult, easily tangled hair. Therefore, we need a product like this to make it a bit easier to run a brush through our hair. These two products were purchased at Walmart but are also available at target :)
